Def Poetry Jam

I remember there was this show that aired weekly on HBO.
It featured many different faces, from different places, of different races, different ethnicities.
It wasnt about the looks of the speaker.
But the words they were speaking. Occasionally a famous person would come through and paint a picture so vivid.
You feel every letter in each sentence. Grabbing the attention of the audience speaking on an array of topics.
From politics to friends.
Street life to digging within yourself to create a better being.
The Boogie Man himself, Mighty Mos Def as the host.
Shihan told us about flashy words.
How they make the world turn.
But it doesn’t turn right.
Common’s “Letter To The Law” had me saying fuck the police.
Talib Kweli poem “hell” inspired me. Black Ice “or die” schooled me on the game. Kanye came through in the pink Polo.
Saul Williams “Coded Language.” Enough said.
The list goes on.
Truth is I want someone to bring Def Poetry Jam back.
Featuring a new breed
Of starving aspiring poets/artists.
Including me.
